What is something high school students should take into account before committing to a university major?
I think the one thing is, is you don’t realize how much work it’s going to be and the different balance. When you’re in high school and you’re doing your homework all the time, remember when you come to university to live your life and to make time for that and to know how to structure a bit of you time in your day.
I think it’s a little bit harder [to find balance] but I think I studied a lot in high school and it would’ve been better if I’d learnt to balance things out, because coming to UBC it took me like a little bit to be like, “okay, yeah I do need to study but also I need to live my life, to have fun and take care of myself”.
Was the application process for UBC stressful or difficult?
I am not the greatest writer but I think I definitely spent a good amount thinking about it. It’s very easy for me to talk about things, but it’s not always easy to put it on a page and be like okay, how can I get someone else to read this and get the same thing that I want them to get out of what I wrote?
Did you do any extracurriculars in high school to help your application process?
I played high school slow pitch because it was fun. I put that as my literal application. They’ll ask you 5 activities that you do [in the application]. I also coached a girls softball team. I wrote the most random-est thing that I did in high school for my university application.
